The ongoing Free Surgical Intervention Programme initiated by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has already benefited over 100 individuals. The program began with patient registration on Monday and surgical operations commenced the following day. These surgeries are being conducted across six State Hospitals and 40 General Hospitals throughout the state.
A breakdown of the procedures reveals that 36 surgeries have been performed at State Hospital, Abeokuta, while Ijebu Ode saw 22, Ilaro had 6, and Ifo had 4. Among the General Hospitals, Odeda and Owode-Egba had 2 each, Ikenne had 5, Iperu had 3, and Imeko had 6. Additionally, Olikoye Ransome Kuti Memorial Hospital, Asero, Abeokuta, witnessed one procedure.
Speaking on the program’s progress at the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, Chief Medical Director Dr. Bababunmi Osinaike reported that 491 people were registered, with 36 patients already operated upon. The surgeries included general surgery cases such as hernia repair, excision of breast lumps, and lipoma removal, among others, as well as orthopedic and ophthalmic surgeries.
Dr. Osinaike stated that 40 patients have been scheduled for surgery, with 17 for general procedures and 23 for eye operations. Additionally, some gynecology cases, such as fibroid and thyroid surgeries, are planned for Thursday.
Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Samuel Tolulope, mentioned that despite the large turnout of patients, the program has been running smoothly without any fatalities.
Patients like Mr. Owolabi Soletire and Mr. Sunday Alayade expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity to undergo free surgery, noting the positive impact on their health.
At State Hospital Ijebu-Ode, 23 surgical procedures have been completed, with the Medical Director, Dr. Banjo Adeoye, expressing gratitude to Governor Abiodun for providing access to free healthcare for the less privileged. Dr. Adeoye assured that the hospital is fully equipped to attend to all registered beneficiaries. Patients, including Mrs. Arinola Adenuga and Okuwobi Ayomide, also expressed appreciation for the program’s assistance in addressing their medical needs.
