Bichi, a local government council in Kano has completely banned farming in grazing reserves and cattle routes to put a stop to farmers/Herders clashes across the area.
The acting chairman of Bichi local government council, Alhaji Abubakar Sule Babangida Ɗanzabuwa stated this on Tuesday as he emphasized that the LGA is making efforts to ensure no loss of lives to herder/farmer clash during this rainy season.
This is contained in a statemend signed by the Information officer, Bichi local government, Tasiʼu Jibo Dawanau, who added that the clash has been a disturbing and avoidable challenge.
The acting chairman who was represented by the supervisory councilor for land and Survey of the council, Samaʼila Abdu Dutsen Ɗorawa said, the move was to ensure peaceful coexistence among parties across the eleven wards of the area.
He said,the local administration will take disciplinary measures to defaulters and urged traditional leaders to abide by the rules.
A farmer, Malam Sunusi Alhaji Adamu Damargu advised relevant authorities to take proactive measures to minimize farmers/herders clashes for socioeconomic development of the citizenry.
He called on farmers to desist from farming in grazing reserves and cattle routes and enjoined cattle breeders to avoid rearing at farmer’s jurisdiction and farmlands to serve as preventive measure against crisis.
Damargu urged relevant authorities to embrace proactive measures to minimize clashes among farmers and herders.
