The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria has announced that it is investigating reports of a Chinese mining company allegedly abandoning Nigerian workers in the Central African Republic (CAR).
In a statement released Friday in Abuja, the Embassy addressed the controversy sparked by a viral video showing Nigerian miners reportedly left behind by the Chinese firm.
The Embassy emphasized that it is taking the issue seriously and has already begun efforts to verify the facts surrounding the incident.
“The Chinese government requires all its citizens and businesses abroad to strictly follow local laws and conduct their operations within the legal framework of their host countries.
“We will press the company involved to handle the situation properly, maintain close coordination with Nigerian authorities during the probe, and work to protect the legitimate rights and interests of citizens from both countries,” the statement read.
