Several Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have been eliminated, and an ammunition depot destroyed in a series of airstrikes conducted by the Nigerian Air Force in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
The targeted strikes, carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Sunday, focused on terrorist hideouts in the Arinna Waje area.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the development in a post on X, stating that the operation was based on credible intelligence and ongoing surveillance, which confirmed a large ISWAP gathering in the area just five days after a violent clash with a rival Boko Haram faction.
“NAF aircraft were deployed to strike the identified locations in a series of coordinated bombardments,” military sources were quoted as saying.
The sources noted that the precision strikes wiped out several terrorist camps and logistical hubs. “One of the strikes also caused a secondary explosion, indicating a direct hit on a major ISWAP ammunition depot,” they added.
Key ISWAP commanders were reportedly among those killed in the raid.
The Nigerian Air Force, in collaboration with ground forces and intelligence units, has pledged to maintain the offensive to further weaken terrorist operations in the Lake Chad and Sambisa regions.
