Achievers University, Owo, has refuted reports circulating in some sections of the media alleging that the institution rusticated students over sex-related offences, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
In a press statement issued by the University’s Head of Corporate Affairs and Protocol, Mr. Olaniyi Adekanye, and made available to The Agenda Online, the management stated categorically that no student has ever been rusticated on account of sex-related offences since the institution’s establishment.
According to the statement, remarks credited to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Bode Ayorinde, during the University’s 19th matriculation ceremony were taken out of context. The University explained that the Pro-Chancellor’s comments were historical in nature and were intended to highlight the institution’s long-standing commitment to discipline, responsible conduct, and moral standards over its more than 18 years of existence.
“The remarks did not refer to any sex-related offence, recent incident, or mass expulsion of students,” the statement clarified.
Achievers University further explained that disciplinary issues, whenever they occur, are addressed on an individual basis and in accordance with established procedures outlined in the institution’s Student Code of Conduct. The management emphasized that due process and fairness guide all disciplinary actions taken by the University.
The institution also reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare and development, noting that it provides counselling, mentorship, and continuous orientation programmes aimed at promoting responsible behaviour among students. The University added that it places strong emphasis on guiding students on appropriate conduct, including responsible use of digital platforms.
Achievers University expressed appreciation to stakeholders and members of the media for their continued support and urged the public to verify information through its official communication channels before dissemination.
The institution reiterated its dedication to maintaining academic excellence while fostering a disciplined and supportive learning environment for students.
