The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reiterated its commitment to broadening its intervention programmes across the Niger Delta region, with a focus on improving livelihoods and supporting vulnerable communities.
This assurance was given during the distribution of relief materials to residents of Omuma-Uzor community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State. Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku—represented by the Director II, Education, Health and Social Services, Engr. Jeremiah Oritsejolone—said the initiative reflects the Commission’s ongoing efforts to ease the economic burden on households in the region.
He noted that rising living costs and limited access to essential needs have continued to put pressure on families, particularly in rural areas. According to him, the NDDC remains focused on implementing targeted interventions designed to provide relief and promote inclusive development.
“The Commission is committed to programmes that empower individuals and strengthen livelihoods. Beneficiaries are encouraged to make judicious use of the items distributed to improve their household welfare,” he stated.
Ogbuku also urged communities to maintain peace and collaborate with government agencies to ensure the success of development initiatives. He emphasized that governance should remain people-oriented, responsive, and compassionate.
In his remarks, the NDDC Director in Abia State, Dr. Anderson Ukeh—represented by Principal Manager Mrs. Ijeoma Offor—advised residents to remain law-abiding and orderly during the distribution process. Similarly, the Deputy Director, Education, Health and Social Services, Dr. Chioma Nwakwue, encouraged the community to uphold unity and cooperation, while appreciating their continued support for the Commission.
Earlier, the Chairman of Omuma-Uzor community, Elder Felix Nwogu, expressed gratitude to the NDDC for responding to their request for assistance, describing the intervention as timely and commendable.
