Actor Olaiya Igwe apologises for going naked to campaign for Tinubu

Veteran Yoruba actor, Olaiya Igwe, has publicly apologized to Nigerians for his previous act of going naked to pray for President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general elections. This apology comes in the midst of the challenges faced by Nigerians due to President Tinubu’s economic policies.

Olaiya has faced criticism since the incident where he prayed for Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 elections while being unclothed at the beach. In a video titled “Apologies to all my fans” shared on his YouTube page, the actor attributed his actions to a divine revelation he claimed to have received.

Expressing remorse, Olaiya stated, “I went naked at the beach to pray for Tinubu based on revelation. I supported him as payback because he is my benefactor. Nigerians, please don’t be angry. You see me as one of those who brought this hardship to the country. I accept. You are raining curses on me because you felt my going to the beach influenced you to vote for him. I’m sorry.”

He acknowledged the dissatisfaction among Nigerians with the current state of the country and emphasized that he understands the anger directed towards him. Olaiya appealed to Tinubu, urging him to address the unmet expectations of Nigerians by appointing a monitoring team to ensure that his promises and plans are fulfilled by his appointees. This statement follows recent discontent expressed by another prominent Tinubu supporter and musician, Kwam 1, regarding the prevailing hardships in Nigeria.
