African Games: Amusan completes hat trick of gold medals

Tobi Amusan secured her third consecutive African Games gold medal by claiming the top spot in the 100m Hurdles final on Wednesday in Ghana, further solidifying her dominance in the event.

Following her victories in the same event in 2015 in Congo Brazzaville and then in Rabat four years later, Amusan continued her streak with another triumph in Ghana.

Although Wednesday’s victory for Amusan faced an initial setback due to a false start by the World Record holder, once the race began, her victory seemed inevitable. She clocked an impressive time of 12.89s (-2.1), reaffirming her status as the clear winner.

Sidonie Fiadanantsoa secured the silver medal with a time of 13.19s, while Nigeria’s Faith Osamuyi narrowly missed out on a podium finish, finishing fourth with a time of 13.77s.

Amusan’s gold medal marks the fifth athletics gold for Team Nigeria at the ongoing African Games in Ghana.

During the last African Games in Morocco, athletics contributed 10 gold medals to Nigeria’s overall tally, and it appears that this record may be matched, if not exceeded, in Ghana.
