BREAKING: Edo House of Assembly impeaches Shaibu

On Monday, the Edo State House of Assembly carried out the impeachment of the embattled deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

During the Assembly session, which commenced at 9:41 am, a vote was cast for the impeachment of the deputy governor. Eighteen members voted in favor of the impeachment, while one member dissented. With the speaker expected to provide the deciding vote in the event of a tie, this resulted in the deputy governor’s removal. Twenty members were present during the proceedings.

According to the findings of a seven-man panel chaired by Justice Stephen Omonua (Rtd) and established by the Chief Judge (CJ) of the state, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the deputy governor, Shaibu was found guilty of disclosing official secrets. However, the panel absolved the impeached deputy governor of perjury charges due to lack of substantiated evidence.

Further details will be provided subsequently.
