Suspected herdsmen launched a deadly assault on the Ikobi-Ochekwu community in the Apa Local Government Area of Benue State late Wednesday night, resulting in the deaths of several residents, including a soldier who was recently married.
Reports indicate that the attack persisted for several hours.
A local resident, Ochofie, told DAILY POST that the assailants invaded the village under the cover of night, firing indiscriminately and setting homes on fire.
The total number of casualties is still unknown, as several individuals remain unaccounted for.
“In the early hours of Thursday, two more bodies were found in nearby Ijaha—identified as Sani Ngbede and Aduba Paul Ogboyi,” a source revealed.
Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of the other victims, including the fallen soldier.
