As Nigerian children join the global celebration of World Children’s Day, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has called on parents and guardians to discourage their children from engaging in cultism.
In his message to mark the occasion, the Governor warmly extended his congratulations to children in Edo State and across Nigeria, emphasizing that Children’s Day is a time to celebrate the limitless potential, purity, and vibrant energy of young people—whom he described as the genuine leaders of tomorrow.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to safeguarding children’s welfare, ensuring access to quality education, and creating an enabling environment where they can thrive and reach their full potential.
He stated, “Our children are our most valuable treasure. Their aspirations shape the vision for a brighter future in Edo State. As a government, we are dedicated to nurturing their development, protecting their rights, and supporting their talents.”
The Governor outlined several key efforts by his administration aimed at improving children’s lives, particularly through investment in education. He reiterated his promise to upgrade school facilities and provide conducive learning spaces, citing the recent declaration of a state of emergency in public schools, along with ongoing renovation projects statewide.
He also stressed the need to shield children from abuse and exploitation, highlighting the state’s active enforcement of child protection laws and its drive to ensure access to education for every child.
Okpebholo pledged to continue creating opportunities that empower young people and prepare them for productive futures—while addressing critical issues like cultism and violence that threaten their growth.
He emphasized that every child, regardless of background, deserves equal opportunities to succeed. The state government, he assured, will remain focused on equipping children with the tools and support needed to excel academically, develop their skills, and become valuable contributors to society.
Finally, the Governor called on parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to play their vital roles in mentoring and guiding children, instilling positive values, and encouraging them to dream big and pursue excellence. He urged Edo children to embrace education and assured them of his administration’s unwavering support on their journey to a brighter future.
