DSS denies Nnamdi Kanu access to visitors due to deteriorating health – Family alleges

The family of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of preventing him from receiving visitors. Emmanuel Kanu, the brother of Nnamdi Kanu, alleged that the DSS is denying access to visitors in order to keep them uninformed about the current state of his health, which is reportedly deteriorating.

Despite court orders for his release, Nnamdi Kanu remains in DSS custody in Abuja. He was re-arrested in Kenya and brought to Nigeria in June 2021, and despite court rulings mandating the DSS to permit the Biafra agitator to have regular access to family members and lawyers twice a week, the family claims that the DSS has not allowed such access.

Emmanuel Kanu expressed suspicion about the actions of the DSS, stating, “DSS is stopping my brother’s visitors from seeing him, which is another flagrant disregard of a subsisting court order and their effort to conceal my brother’s deteriorating health condition. For me, DSS has become a private security company where the authority manages it as his personal family business. I’m yet to know why my brother is still currently in detention against court orders,” he told newsmen.
