EFCC detains VeryDarkMan

Popular Nigerian social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The development was confirmed by activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju in a post shared on his official Facebook page Friday evening.

Earlier reports indicated that Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) may have initiated the arrest following VDM’s public criticism of the bank over alleged unauthorized withdrawals from his mother’s account.

Providing an update, Adeyanju revealed that a legal team led by Marvin Omorogbe, head of their law firm, met with a friend of VDM who was also detained by the EFCC.

According to Adeyanju, “VDM refused to leave the cell or meet anyone. He and his friend were apprehended after being held for over five minutes at GTB’s exit door to allow EFCC officials to detain them.”

He added that the legal team plans to take action against GTB, citing what he described as the “inhumane treatment” of their client.
