FEC allocates N759bn for road construction

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the allocation of N759 billion for the construction of roads linking Obajana to Benin and Isheri to Ogun. This decision was made during yesterday’s FEC meeting, where a total of N873.23 billion was allocated for three projects under the Ministry of Works.

Works Minister Dave Umahi confirmed the approval and mentioned several projects, including the Obajana-Benin Road, Isheri-Ogun Road, and the Outer Marina Shoreline protection. He clarified that the recent increase in cement prices is not related to the concrete road policy implemented by the ministry.

Umahi outlined the details of the road projects, noting that the Obajana-Benin dualisation project, covering 244 kilometers, received augmentation approval to a total of N897 billion. This project was initially awarded in 2012 for light rehabilitation but was later reviewed and dualized by the previous administration in 2018.

Additionally, FEC approved N2.23 billion for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to repair and maintain the road infrastructure connecting Isheri North to Ogun State. Umahi highlighted that this project is crucial as it will provide an alternative route to the Lagos-Shagamu Road, which will be tolled upon completion, as mandated by law.

Overall, these approvals mark significant progress in addressing key road infrastructure needs and improving connectivity in various parts of the country.
