Governor Kefas initiates committee to scrutinise LGs revenue performance in Taraba

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has instituted a committee with the primary objective of assessing the effectiveness of revenue generation in the local government councils across the state. The official announcement, made in Jalingo, the state capital, was communicated via a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yusuf Sandaa.

The committee has been assigned several key tasks, including evaluating the methods employed for local government revenue collection and scrutinizing the subsequent management of these funds. Among its responsibilities is the identification of local governments that have delegated their revenue collection to individuals or groups not officially authorized for such roles.

Additionally, the committee is mandated to investigate the involvement of local governments in such practices and propose measures against individuals or groups engaged in unauthorized revenue collection, while also recommending strategies to prevent future occurrences. The committee is also expected to suggest the adoption of globally recognized best practices for revenue collection.

In addition to these duties, the committee, as reported by Daily Post, is instructed to provide recommendations for enhancing internally generated revenue within the local government areas. An essential part of its mandate is to propose measures to prevent leakages in the revenue collection process at the local government level.

The committee has been given a timeframe of 14 days to complete its comprehensive review and submit recommendations. The initiative underscores the state government’s commitment to optimizing revenue collection processes and ensuring transparency and efficiency in the financial management of local government councils in Taraba, according to the release.
