Gunmen Behead Omoku Youth President, Kill Aide in Rivers

Suspected gunmen have brutally murdered the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Ifeanyi Azuazu, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State.
Community sources confirmed to Atlantic Reporters Online that Azuazu was abducted on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during an attack at a popular drinking spot along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, Omoku. The attack, which occurred at about 6:00 p.m., also claimed the life of his personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu.
Sources disclosed that Azuazu’s lifeless and beheaded body was later recovered in a forest in Elieta, within the same local government area.
The remains were discovered by operatives of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) days after the youth leader was kidnapped by the attackers.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants, numbering about seven, arrived in two vehicles and opened fire upon sighting Azuazu. They reportedly ordered him into one of the vehicles during the attack. Oluwu was said to have attempted to intervene but was shot dead on the spot before the gunmen forcibly whisked Azuazu away.
Confirming the recovery of the body, the OSPAC spokesperson in ONELGA, Mr. Goodnews Nkem, disclosed in a telephone interview that the corpse was found in Elieta Forest. The incident has sparked shock, grief, and outrage across Omoku and surrounding communities.
