Hungry Nigerians will determine winner of 2027 presidential election – Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has stated that the outcome of the 2027 presidential election will be determined by the Nigerian people who are currently grappling with hunger.

He made this remark on Wednesday in Ibadan during the official inauguration of the newly elected South-West zonal executives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to Makinde, the voices and votes of those affected by the harsh economic conditions will shape the future of the nation in 2027.

Addressing concerns about recent defections from the PDP, including high-profile figures, Makinde emphasized that the party remains committed to the masses and their welfare.

He urged party members not to be discouraged, asserting that the PDP is still the only political party in Nigeria with solid institutional structures.

“People have asked us what direction the PDP is heading in light of recent defections by governors and other key figures,” Makinde said. “But my response has been consistent — we won’t be worried until hunger decamps to the APC.”

He continued, “There is widespread hunger in the country, and it is those affected by it who will ultimately decide what 2027 will look like. Let anyone who wants to decamp do so—we will remain with the Nigerian people.”
