Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has made a bold assertion that he could swiftly resolve the security challenges in the South East if he were released from detention. Kanu expressed his confidence that no one in the region could defy his directives regarding security matters. Speaking passionately to journalists in the courtroom of the Abuja Federal High Court, Kanu alleged that certain individuals in the government were profiting from the insecurity prevalent in the South East.
He claimed that his release would promptly bring an end to the turmoil in the region. Kanu firmly stated that his authority could not be undermined in the South East, emphasizing his capability to restore peace within two minutes of being freed. Despite his plea for bail being denied by Justice Binta Nyako, the judge ordered an expedited hearing for Kanu’s case, which involves charges related to terrorism and treasonable felony.
Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his arrest in June 2021. Justice Nyako clarified that while bail was not granted, the court would ensure a swift trial and instructed the prosecution to present its first witness promptly.
