I won’t joke with security, welfare of Corps members in Bayelsa – Governor Diri

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has firmly pledged his commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of Corps members in the state and assured that he will not treat these matters lightly.

The Governor made this declaration while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony for the 2023 Batch C, Stream I Corps members who have been deployed to the state for their mandatory one-year national service.

Governor Diri emphasized the importance of creating a conducive environment for effective service and expressed his full support for the principles, goals, programs, and activities of the National Youth Service Corps.

A total of 1301 Corps members were sworn in during the ceremony, with the State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Matilde Abrakasa Ayemieye, administering the oath.

Represented by his Executive Assistant on NYSC Matters, Wisdom Poyeri, Governor Diri encouraged the newly sworn-in Corps members to provide high-quality service to both the state and the nation at large, highlighting that the nation relies on them for quality service and leadership.

Governor Diri also encouraged the Corps members to actively participate in all camp activities to enhance their citizenship and leadership skills. He assured them that his administration would continue to support the NYSC scheme to help it achieve its set objectives.

In her welcome address, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, noted that the Corps members deployed to the state had all been registered and were gradually adapting to the demands of the orientation exercise. She commended the Executive Governor for the ongoing construction of two additional hostels and drainage facilities in the camp and urged the timely completion of the work to facilitate the deployment of more Corps members to the state.
