I’m now alone to face all manner of mockery – Akeredolu’s wife

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the widow of the late former Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, expressed profound sorrow at her husband’s passing, acknowledging that his demise would deeply wound her.

In her tribute to her late husband, Betty lamented that Akeredolu’s death would subject her to ridicule from various quarters, particularly those who perceived him as weak due to his affection for her.

She maintained that she faced animosity from people in the state because of her ethnic background and the strong bond she shared with Akeredolu.

“Dearest, it’s me, your beloved Betty. You’ve departed, leaving me alone to bear the unbearable pain. It’s excruciating.

“Now, I’m left to endure the scorn of supposed friends and foes alike. Many have criticized you for your affection towards me, labeling you as weak. Can a leader of Amotekun be deemed weak? Absolutely not! It defies logic.

“By the way, do they comprehend the essence of love? I doubt it. In their households, they witnessed their mothers being treated like doormats, subjected to abuse and violence. They replicated this pattern, treating their spouses as mere objects, while society turned a blind eye to gender-based violence.

“They find it inconceivable that a Nigerian man can genuinely love his wife. To them, only foreigners are capable of such affection. They’re perplexed that a Yoruba man can cherish his Igbo wife. Unthinkable! Igbo indeed!

“It was love at first sight that brought us together, not witchcraft! Our love transcended ethnic boundaries and proved to be authentic. You proudly proclaimed our unity to the people of Ondo State, boldly stating that they got two for the price of one.

“We may have disagreed on religion, with you being devout and open about your faith while I held different beliefs unapologetically. Despite this difference, we navigated our relationship through effective communication.

“You accepted my stance on religion and respected my pragmatic approach. Together, we built a harmonious home by honoring each other’s quirks, supporting our respective careers, and nurturing our love.

“Your courage and fearlessness have become legendary, echoing like a familiar tune on everyone’s lips.”
