Imo election: First thing I did after INEC declared me winner — Gov Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has revealed the initial action he took after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him the winner of the governorship election in the state held on Saturday.

Uzodinma shared that he immediately entered the chapel to express his gratitude to God for ensuring his success in the election. The governor disclosed this during a press conference held in Owerri, the state capital, on Monday.

In addition, Governor Uzodinma dedicated his victory to the Almighty, emphasizing his deep sense of humility and unwavering faith in God. During the press conference, he expressed his acknowledgment of God’s role in all aspects of his life and governance. He recounted his immediate response upon receiving the news of his victory, stating, “Because I acknowledge God in everything I do and because I know that power comes from God, the first thing I did on receiving the news was to proceed to the Chapel to thank God for his goodness to me and the people of Imo State.”

Continuing, he expressed his gratitude to God, recognizing the divine intervention that led to his victory. Uzodinma stressed that he could never thank God enough for repeating the success achieved four years ago, and thus, he dedicated the victory to God and the residents of Imo State.

INEC declared Uzodinma the winner of the governorship election on Sunday, announcing that he secured the highest number of votes. The Returning Officer for Imo State, Prof Abayomi Fasina, disclosed that Uzodinma garnered 540,308 votes, surpassing other candidates. Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came in second with 71,503 votes, and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party secured the third position with 64,081 votes.
