The Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday vowed to continue with the impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
Addressing a live press conference in Port Harcourt, the lawmakers accused Governor Fubara of blackmail and said he lacked the trust required to resolve the crisis rocking the oil-rich state.
They alleged that the governor had infringed on the 1999 Constitution, leaving the parliament with no option but to exercise its legislative powers by initiating impeachment proceedings.
The lawmakers also claimed that the governor and his deputy had resorted to intimidating members of the House.
They, however, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for intervening in the crisis.
The lawmakers called on the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, to reconvene the Assembly.
Four members of the House who had earlier addressed the press and called for a political solution later recanted their positions and declared their support for the continuation of the impeachment process.
Shortly after the press conference, the lawmakers proceeded to the chamber for the commencement of a parliamentary session
