Once again, the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, mourns the loss of veteran actor Amaechi Mounachi. Known for his comedic roles on screen, Mounachi passed away after a prolonged struggle with kidney disease, diabetes, and stroke.
The heartbreaking news of Mounachi’s demise circulated on the internet on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024. This tragedy comes shortly after a video surfaced online showing the 61-year-old actor lying in bed, appealing for financial assistance to support his kidney transplant. Sitting beside him in the video was fellow actor Kingsley Orji, who pleaded for help on Mounachi’s behalf.
Orji disclosed that the kidney disease had caused speech difficulties for Mounachi, prompting them to bring him home from the hospital due to financial constraints. Earlier reports indicated that Mounachi had been grappling with diabetes and stroke, with the latter resulting in paralysis in one of his legs.
Last November, Mounachi’s cousin, Hon Tony Muonagor, shared a photo of himself sitting beside the ailing actor on a hospital bed, intending to raise awareness about his relative’s condition.
