Resident doctors suspend planned industrial action

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) have taken a decision to shelve plans on their proposed industrial action.

This is as a result of a meeting in Uyo by the National Executive Committee (NEC), where it reviewed the progress on their demands.

NARD had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike earlier this month over the inability of the government to address their demands.

The demand borders on the upward review of their medical residency training fund, non-payment of outstanding arrears of the new hazard allowance, as well as the non-payment of the consequential adjustment of the minimum wage to some of its members.

However, the doctors commended the Federal Government for the timely release of the reviewed circular on the medical residency training fund at the end of their NEC meeting.

NARD have appealed to the Federal Government and governors of Abia, Imo, Ondo and Ekiti to pay all other outstanding arrears owed its members.
