The Sokoto State House of Assembly on Wednesday held a special prayer session in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82 in a London hospital.
Presiding over the session, Speaker Alhaji Tukur Bala said the gathering was organized to pray for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul.
Bala described Buhari as a patriotic figure who devoted his life to the service of Nigeria, calling him a national icon and principled statesman whose legacy should inspire both Nigerians and people around the world.
“With his passing, the nation has lost a remarkable leader, a mentor, and a symbol of integrity. Buhari’s character and leadership are worthy of deep admiration and imitation,” Bala said.
He added, “He was more than a leader—he was a father figure whose values should continue to guide us. His dedication to nation-building will always be remembered.”
The Speaker also conveyed the Assembly’s heartfelt condolences to Buhari’s family, close associates, the Emir of Daura, as well as the people and government of Katsina State and all Nigerians.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the Assembly postponed its sitting until July 21 in mourning of the former President, who was buried on Tuesday at his home in Daura, Katsina State.
