Strike: Our key demands must be met – Nigerian nurses

The National Association of Nurses and Midwives, Federal Health Institutions Sector, has declared that it will continue its ongoing strike until critical parts of its demands are met.

The association’s National Chairman, Morakinyo-Olajide Rilwan, stated this on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

According to DAILY POST, the union proceeded with the strike on Wednesday despite a meeting with the Minister of Labour on Tuesday, following the expiration of its 15-day ultimatum issued on July 14, 2025.

Rilwan emphasized that the striking nurses would not heed government calls to resume work without concrete action on their demands.

Responding to a question about whether they would return to work first while the government reviews their requests, Rilwan said:

“That is exactly what the government will ask—that we suspend the strike so they can assess our demands.

“But we are not comfortable with that. We need to see that certain key demands are addressed before we can even consider suspending the strike.”
