Suspected Hoodlums Set Ablaze INEC office in Ogun

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) located at Iyana Mortuary area, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, have been set on fire by some suspected hoodlums.

According to information, hoodlums stormed the area under the cover of darkness, scaled the perimeter fence of INEC office in an early hours of Thursday to gain entry to the Commission’s premises and set the building on fire.

The arsonists were said to have lobed items soaked in Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) into different locations within the building before setting up the INEC office.

Operatives of the Federal Fire Service(FFS), Ogun State Command, were at the scene to stop the fire, which severely affected the store, the Registration Area Officer’s office and the conference room.

The FFS Public Relations Officer, Mr Ayanosiji Oluwasegun, disclosed that the operatives received distress calls at about 1am on Thursday, informing them that the INEC office was on fire.

Oluwasegun however said the fire had been put out by the Fire Service operatives.

“There was an incident of fire at INEC office at Iyana Mortuary. Our men were there and they were able to put out the fire. They got calls around after one O’clock midnight that INEC office was on fire. They were able to go to the scene, no life was lost but parts of the building were engulfed by the fire,” he said.
