UPDATED: Junior Pope, three other Nollywood actors die in boat accident

Junior Pope, also known as Pope Odonwodo, a prominent Nollywood actor, has tragically passed away. The news of his death was shared by filmmaker Samuel Olatunji on Wednesday, April 10. According to Olatunji, Junior Pope, along with three other individuals, lost their lives when their boat capsized in the Anam River.

The Nollywood community mourns this loss, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Junior Pope’s family during this difficult time. 

In a poignant video posted on his Instagram page, Junior Pope can be seen on a boat without a life jacket, pleading with the captain to proceed cautiously. His heartfelt plea echoes the risks that actors often take to entertain their audience. In the caption, he wrote, “See me lamenting… The risk we take to entertain you; crossing the river in Nigeria yesterday with no life jacket… Na wahoooooo… Who does that??”¹.
