Zamfara College of Agric to be upgraded to College of Agriculture, Technology

The government of Zamfara State has given its approval for the transformation of the College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences in Bakura into a College of Agriculture and Technology. The necessary arrangements for its renovation have been finalized, as revealed by Yau Haruna Gamji, the State Commissioner for Agriculture. This information was conveyed during the defense of the ministry’s budget for the fiscal year 2024 before the House of Assembly standing committee on appropriation.

In a statement released by the ministry’s information and public relations officer, Bashir Abashiya, it was mentioned that Commissioner Gamji highlighted the significance of upgrading the college. He emphasized that the transformation aligns with the vision of the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Sir Ahmadu Bello, who originally established the institution to provide skilled manpower for agricultural extension services in the region.

Furthermore, Commissioner Gamji explained that the upgrade would enable the college to benefit from interventions by Tetfund and other donors. This support is expected to enhance infrastructure and facilitate capacity building for the institution’s staff. Additionally, he mentioned that the State Government has granted approval for the re-accreditation of existing courses and the accreditation of new technical disciplines. This step is crucial for the college’s transition from a Monotechnic to a Polytechnic, as stipulated by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
