2023: Soludo Targets Over ₦200m From Atiku, Obi, Tinubu, Others

The government of Anambra State under the leadership of Prof Chukwuma Soludo has banned indiscriminate and unauthorized display of campaign posters ahead of the 2023 general election, Citypost learnt.

The administration is consequently targeting over ₦150 million naira from candidates running for presidential and house of assembly elections who are interested in displaying campaign posters or customizing vehicles for that purpose.

Anambra State government will raise ₦150 million at ₦10m each from 15 presidential candidates cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission if this idea is eventually enforced, while the State House of Assembly, Federal House and Senatorial Candidates would likely make it up to over ₦200 million.

According to a statement credited to the MD / CEO of Anambra Signage and Advertising Agency, ANSAA, Odili Ujubuonu, upfront advert payment of ₦10.m, ₦7.m, ₦5.m and ₦1.m each will be paid by the presidential, senatorial, HoR and HoA candidates respectively.

The statement further directed that all payments must be made into the government’s designated revenue account, while defaulters would face prosecuted before the election.

Further breakdown of statutory out-of-home media and mobile advertising are as follows:

₦100,000, ₦500,000 and ₦100,000 for 48 sheets, spectacular and irregular billboards respectively, while gantry displays goes for ₦500,000, branded ₦50,000 for branded vehicles and ₦5000 for keke rear branding.

The statement read in part: “As campaigns for the 2023 general election officially commence next month, September, Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency ANSAA, in charge of all forms of advertising in the state, wishes to bring some important information to your notice.

“That posting of posters on the bridges, road demarcations, streetlight poles, roundabouts and public buildings remain prohibited.

“That every material and advert forms such as posters, public address systems, banners, fliers, buntings, T-shirts, caps and sundries must be duly approved for after full payment of the requisite fee.

“That every billboard must be displayed through a registered advertising practitioner after the advertising content has been vetted by the APCON.”
