Akeredolu’s Demise: Ondo governor’s office deserted, offices shut

Upon receiving the news of the passing of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, early on Wednesday, the atmosphere around the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, can be characterized as solemn. Although there has been no official statement from the government regarding the governor’s demise, various sources, speaking anonymously, have confirmed the news.

Akeredolu, who had been contending with leukemia, a form of blood cancer, succumbed to the illness, leading to a subdued environment in the usually bustling seat of power in Alagbaka. Despite it being the first working day after the Christmas holidays, the area appeared deserted. A visit by DAILY POST to the state secretariat revealed security agents stationed at the entrance of the governor’s office, contributing to the somber ambiance. Many offices in the secretariat were locked, reflecting the prevalent sense of loss and grief that has enveloped the state.

Similarly, the mood at Oja Oba market, a popular market in the state, was tense as the news reached traders in the Akure metropolis. Confusion and disbelief were evident on the faces of the people, who expressed shock and sadness over the sudden demise of the governor. This sentiment extended to markets such as Isinkan and Nepa, as well as throughout the Akure metropolis, where individuals gathered in groups to discuss the unfolding development.
