Plateau Massacre: Tinubu failed Nigerians – Adegboruwa

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has let down the Nigerian populace. Adegboruwa made this declaration on Wednesday in response to the Christmas Eve massacre in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas (LGAs) of Plateau State, where over 100 people were killed.

Expressing his views, Adegboruwa pointed to the revelation by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, who stated that terrorists had permanently taken over and inhabited over 64 communities in the state for more than two years. Adegboruwa sees this as a clear confirmation of the lack of transparency on the part of leaders in addressing the concerns of the people.

He highlighted that the federal government’s primary responsibility is the security of the people, but the administration led by Tinubu has not met expectations in this crucial aspect.

Adegboruwa expressed his dissatisfaction with the governance in Nigeria since May 29, 2023, stating that the well-being of Nigerians has declined, and life has become uncertain and challenging. He asserted that the verdict on the streets across various cities in the country is that the current government has failed the people.

Citing Section 14(2)(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended, he emphasized that the government’s primary purpose should be the security and welfare of the people. Beyond security concerns, Adegboruwa criticized the Tinubu administration for imposing suffering, mass hunger, and poverty through failed economic policies that have resulted in inflation and widespread hardship.

He accused the government of employing the slogan of “Renewed Hope” to lull the people into complacency while leaders enjoy luxury and affluence. Adegboruwa called on the President to either implement tangible programs to improve the lives of Nigerians or resign if there is no genuine commitment to addressing the current economic challenges.

Governor Mutfwang had earlier revealed that the death toll from the Christmas Eve attacks had risen to 115. In response, President Tinubu directed security agencies to take immediate action, thoroughly investigate the area, and apprehend the culprits.
