‘America should regard Africa as necessary partner’ – Tinubu to US Congressional delegation

President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to enhancing democracy by upholding the rule of law and accelerating the delivery of sustainable good governance, justice, and equity to all Nigerian citizens.

Tinubu made this commitment while hosting a delegation from the United States Congress, led by Senator Cory Booker, at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.

He emphasized the importance of defending democracy and ensuring it translates into tangible improvements in quality healthcare, education, food security, housing, and overall economic prosperity for Nigerians.

Tinubu underscored Nigeria’s crucial role in promoting democracy in Africa and globally, highlighting the country’s status as the continent’s largest economy and democracy. He emphasized the need for Nigeria to set a positive example by providing effective governance to its people.

Expressing his personal commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, Tinubu recounted his past efforts and sacrifices in championing democracy, stressing the need to prioritize citizens’ power.

Furthermore, Tinubu called for a more practical and prudent partnership between the United States and Africa, urging the U.S. Congressional delegation to consider expanding critical development initiatives to strengthen relations with the continent.

He proposed the idea of a modern-day Marshall Plan for Africa, emphasizing the need to move away from outdated approaches and address current challenges effectively. Tinubu highlighted the disparity between Africa’s abundant resources and the living conditions of its people, urging for innovative solutions and technological advancements to harness these resources for economic prosperity.

He urged the United States to support Africa’s development by providing de-risking finance and technological assistance to enhance food production, mechanization, and education. Tinubu emphasized the importance of viewing Africa as a vital partner in sustaining democracy and addressing global challenges.
