Court Demands Ex-CBN Gov Emefiele In Prison Custody

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has directed the detention of the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, in the Kuje Correctional Centre. Emefiele faced a six-count amended charge related to fraud, brought forward by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and was presented before Justice Hamza Muazu. Although Emefiele’s Counsel, Mr. Mathew Burkaa, SAN, sought bail, the EFCC’s representative, Rotimi Oyedepo, opposed the application.

Following the arguments presented by both sides, Justice Muazu expressed the need for some time to review the exhibits provided by Emefiele in support of his bail request. As a result, he postponed the case to November 22, 2023, for a ruling.
