NGX crosses historic 100,000 points as ASI appreciates by 3%

The Nigerian Exchange Limited achieved a historic milestone as the All-Share Index surpassed 101,571.11 points, marking a 3% increase on Wednesday. The market capitalization also reached N55.58 trillion, with equities gaining N1.62 trillion—a 3% rise from the previous day’s N53.97 trillion.

However, there was a 34.65% decline in trading volume to 488.49 million units, down from the previous day’s 747.51 million units. In terms of trading value, there was a 50.6% decrease to N8.04 billion, compared to Tuesday’s N16.28 billion.

A closer look at Wednesday’s trading activity revealed that top gainers included WAPIC (+10.00%), closing at N0.88; BUACEMENT (+9.98%), closing at N179.65; JAPAULGOLD (+9.91%), closing at N2.55, along with three other firms. On the flip side, top losers were NEM (-10.00%), closing at N7.20; CADBURY (-9.96%), closing at N23.50; TIP (-9.92%), closing at N2.27; MAYBAKER (-9.89%), closing at N6.65, and two other companies.

In terms of top trading stocks by volume, TRANSCORP (+4.51%) led with 95.11 million units, followed by UNIVINSURE (-9.09%) with 45.63 million units, UNITYBNK (-5.05%) with 27.34 million units, JAIZBANK (+8.57%) with 26.96 million units, and JAPAULGOLD (+9.91%) with 25.32 million units.

Regarding value, TRANSCORP (+4.51%) led with N1.56 billion, followed by BUACEMENT (+9.98%) with N703.80 million, UBA (-0.33%) with N703.55 million, DANGCEM (+6.49%) with N673.70 million, and ZENITHBANK (+0.48%) with N609.62 million.

Stocks worth over N1 trillion drove the market rally, as BUACEMENT (+9.98%), BUAFOODS (+5.59%), DANGCEM (+6.49%), GTCO (+0.47%), ZENITHBANK (+0.48%) recorded significant price gains. However, UBA (-0.33%) and ACCESSCORP (-1.22%) recorded price losses. Other SWOOT category members, including AIRTELAFRI, MTNN, TRANSCOHOT, GEREGU, and SEPLAT, experienced no price changes. Meanwhile, FBNH continued its bearish run, declining another 0.78% on Wednesday.
