Rishi Sunak appointed new UK Prime Minister

King Charles III has appointed Rishi Sunak as New UK Prime Minister following the resignation of Liz Truss.

As head of state, it is Charles’s duty to appoint the head of His Majesty’s Government.

As the third premier in just 50 days, he will waste no time grappling with the economic and political turmoil gripping the country.

Mr Sunak won the Tory leadership contest without a vote being cast after rivals Penny Mordaunt and Boris Johnson dropped out, and will replace Liz Truss, who also met with the monarch on Tuesday to tender her resignation.

He is expected to address the nation just before noon, before entering No 10 as the UK’s first Hindu prime minister, the first of Asian heritage, and the youngest for more than 200 years at the age of 42.

Rishi Sunak is due to be installed as Britain’s third Prime Minister of the year by King Charles III on October 25, 2022, before appointing a Cabinet that will have to wrestle with the U.K.’s economic and political crises.
